Report: NBA could offer to buy out the EuroLeague
An Italian outlet reports that the NBA may offer to purchase the EuroLeague, a move that would run in parallel with its planned NBA Europe project. The matter could be raised at EuroLeague owners' October 5 meeting.
According to Italian outlet "La Gazzetta dello Sport", EuroLeague owners are scheduled to meet on October 5, a gathering that typically signals discussion of major issues affecting the league's future. This time, the central topic is reported to be a possible NBA offer to buy out the EuroLeague.
The report suggests such an offer could be formally submitted after the EuroLeague board meeting planned for Monday. Notably, the acquisition idea would proceed alongside the NBA's already-announced plans to launch its own European tournament, "NBA Europe".
NBA's European plans
As a reminder, the NBA Europe league tournament is planned to launch in October next year, initially featuring 16 clubs. It remains unclear how this new tournament would coexist with a potential EuroLeague buyout, or what relationship would exist between the two competitions.
