Medņeva Accordion Gathering Celebrates 20th Anniversary
This Saturday, July 25, the 20th folk musicians' gathering 'Sounds of Accordions' will take place in Medņeva, having evolved from a small local meeting of accordion players into one of the most significant traditional instrumental music events in Latgale.
In Medņeva, Balvi Municipality, the 20th edition of 'Sounds of Accordions' – a folk musicians' gathering – will be held this Saturday, July 25. The event brings together players of the ermonika (a type of accordion) and enthusiasts of traditional music.
The gathering started twenty years ago as a small meeting of local accordion players from surrounding parishes. Over time, it has grown into a major traditional instrumental music event in Latgale, attracting participants and audiences from across Latvia.
The program traditionally includes performances by accordion players, joint music-making, and master classes. This year's anniversary celebration continues the established tradition of honoring and promoting the accordion-playing heritage characteristic of Latgale.
