Thomas Markle, whose daughter Meghan Markle is married to Britain's Prince Harry, has been detained in Florida, in the United States. The detention is linked to allegations that a collection of images depicting the sexual abuse of children was found at his former residence. Sources who confirmed the detention were not authorised to comment publicly on the investigation and have remained anonymous.
How the allegations emerged
The accusations became public after the British newspaper The Sun reported claims made by Meghan's half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr. According to him, hundreds or even thousands of child sexual abuse images were found on computers and mobile phones at their father's former home in the Philippines.
Meghan's reaction
Meghan Markle recently said she feels "deeply shattered" by the allegations.
Family relations
Meghan has had no relationship with her father since 2018. That year he did not attend her wedding to Prince Harry, citing health problems. Thomas Markle has also never met his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
