Man charged over scissors stabbing of woman near Melbourne police station

A man has been charged following an alleged attack outside a police station in Melbourne's central business district, in which a woman was stabbed with scissors and her young son was punched, according to AAP.

The man, from Sunshine West in Melbourne's inner west, was charged overnight with a series of offences, including affray, intentionally causing injury, two counts of unlawful assault, conduct endangering life and conduct endangering serious injury.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Victims from Phillip Island

The woman and her son were visiting Melbourne from the township of Cowes on Phillip Island. Both were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Police said they do not believe the man and his alleged victims knew each other, suggesting the attack was random.
