Melbourne's Way Dynamic set for international breakthrough with 'Massive Shoe' reissue
Australian folk-pop musician Dylan Young, known as Way Dynamic, will see his 2025 album 'Massive Shoe' reissued internationally by label Jagjaguwar on 2 October, having already won praise from artists including Elton John and Elijah Wood.
Melbourne-based musician Dylan Young, who performs as Way Dynamic, is experiencing the biggest surge of his career. His 2025 album Massive Shoe will be reissued internationally through independent label Jagjaguwar on 2 October. His music has drawn praise from artists including Elton John, Djo and Elijah Wood, as well as broadcaster Zane Lowe.
Last year Young opened for Black Country New Road, Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman on their Australian tours. This year Way Dynamic played its first headline shows in the US and Europe, many of which sold out.
From Ballarat to the world stage
Young grew up in the regional Victorian city of Ballarat and began learning guitar at age eight, inspired by music he discovered through the TV show Rage. In 2014, his high school band Bel Air won a regional competition that earned them a slot at Laneway festival. He moved to Melbourne at 18 and has since played in bands including Good Morning, Snowy Band and Cool Sounds, as well as working as a session drummer for artists such as Darren Hanlon and Kankawa Nagarra.
Way Dynamic's sound, marked by a warm analogue quality and reflective lyrics, has drawn comparisons to the Beach Boys, the Beatles and Nick Drake, though Young admits he isn't very familiar with Drake's catalogue. All three Way Dynamic albums have been co-produced with Stefan Blair of Good Morning.
Young is already working on his next album and will tour the US and Canada in early 2027, with Australian shows planned for November. Despite the temptation to relocate following his international success, he has said he intends to remain based in Melbourne, describing its music community as a nurturing place to live and work.
