In the Scottish Premiership, Falkirk travelled to Glasgow to face Celtic, who had already endured a painful European exit earlier that week. Having won 3:0 at home in the first leg, Celtic then lost 1:5 after extra time away to LASK in Linz, crashing out of the competition. The Austrian side's success was built on two goals from Colombian forward Camilo Duran, scored within the first half hour in front of the home crowd.

Back in domestic league action, Falkirk managed to avoid a heavy defeat, pulling a goal back in the 72nd minute. Six minutes later, in the 78th minute, Meļņiks was introduced as a substitute. The midfielder, not yet 24 years old, had missed the previous round against Motherwell but played the entirety of the opening match of the Premiership season. Against Celtic, Falkirk ultimately came away with a single point.

Šabala keeps scoring in Poland

In Poland's third division, Valērijs Šabala was on target for the second consecutive match. The captain of Chojnice-based club Chojniczanka put his side ahead 1:0 as early as the third minute, but the hosts ultimately settled for a 1:1 draw against Kluczewo. Chojniczanka now has seven points from six matches.
