Melnis and LIAA Leadership Discuss Defense Industry Development Directions
Defense Minister Andris Melnis and the leadership of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency met to discuss cooperation in the defense industry, including joint webinars, sector mapping, and investment projects.

On Monday, Defense Minister Andris Melnis met with the leadership of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA) to discuss key cooperation directions in the defense industry.
The officials positively assessed the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Defense and LIAA, particularly highlighting jointly organized explanatory webinars and industry events. These activities aim to provide timely information on funding opportunities, requirements, and EU instruments. Since December 2025, a total of five such webinars have been organized.
The meeting agenda also included the joint mapping of Latvia's defense industry conducted by the Ministry of Defense and LIAA. This mapping serves as a foundation for localization support, investment attraction, and international cooperation. Cooperation on strategic investment projects was also discussed.
At the conclusion of the talks, the officials addressed key challenges, including the complexity of construction processes.
It has been previously reported that one of Melnis's three priorities upon taking office is a well-organized and fully integrated local military industry that makes a significant contribution to national security.
