A month after Nepal's flood disaster, bodies of European citizens still not found

On August 26, a glacier collapse in Nepal triggered a flow of ice debris, which in turn caused a glacial lake to release water and mud, resulting in destructive floods in both Nepal and neighboring China. The disaster caused extensive damage in the affected regions.

Nearly a month has passed since the tragedy, but full clarity regarding all victims has still not been reached. A representative of Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Latvian Television (LTV) in an interview that bodies of European citizens have apparently not been found in the area affected by the disaster.

The Foreign Ministry's comment indicates that the question of possible European victims of this catastrophe is still being clarified. Official information about the progress and results of search efforts has not yet been widely disclosed, but the representative's statement suggests the situation is being monitored from the Latvian side as well.

The Nepal floods are part of a broader pattern of events linked to climatic and geological changes in the Himalayan region, where glacial lake outburst floods have become more frequent in recent years. This August's event affected not only Nepal but also Chinese territory, creating a need for international coordination in the cleanup effort and in identifying those affected.
