Mercedes-Benz has launched series production of its new fully electric GLA model at its plant in the German city of Rastatt. Initially, the plant will produce only electric versions, though production is expected to later expand to include hybrid and combustion-engine models as well.

Unified naming

With the introduction of the new GLA, Mercedes-Benz is changing its previous approach to naming different powertrain variants. Until now, the electric version was sold under a separate name, EQA, but going forward the electric car will simply be called GLA as well, bringing all powertrain types under one model name.

Technical specifications

The new electric GLA is built on the MMA platform. On a single full charge, the car can travel up to 657 kilometers, and it supports charging at speeds of up to 320 kW.

Production plans

The model is currently being built in assembly hall 4.0. Starting in 2027, however, production will move to a newly built hall, 4.1, whose conversion has already received several hundred million euros in investment from the manufacturer.

In Germany, the Mercedes-Benz GLA is already available to order, with base-version prices starting at €48,599.
