Grīvss, Merzlikins' Teammate, Signs New Three-Year Deal with Blue Jackets

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Grīvss, who took over the starting role from Latvian goaltender Elvis Merzlikins last season, has signed a new three-year contract. The team and player avoided salary arbitration by reaching a mutual agreement. Initially, the Blue Jackets offered $2.8 million per season, while Grīvss' camp requested $7.5 million. The new deal averages $5 million per year for a total of $15 million.

Last season, Grīvss posted a .908 save percentage and a 2.6 goals-against average, earning 26 wins in 54 games. He assumed the starting goaltender role from Merzlikins early in the season. Meanwhile, Merzlikins is entering the final year of his current contract, with a $4.23 million salary and a $5.4 million cap hit.

The Blue Jackets finished 11th in the Eastern Conference last season and missed the playoffs.
