Messi's goal and assist power Inter Miami to Campeones Cup title
Lionel Messi scored a goal and set up another as Inter Miami won the Campeones Cup, the annual final between the MLS and Liga MX cup winners. Messi was also named the match's most valuable player.

Inter Miami has won the Campeones Cup, the trophy contested annually between the winners of the United States' top soccer league (MLS) and Mexico's Liga MX. Lionel Messi played a decisive role in the final, both scoring and creating a goal.
Messi's 100th goal for the club
In the 24th minute, Messi headed home a cross from Luis Suárez to put Inter Miami ahead 1-0. The goal marked Messi's 100th for the Miami club since joining. Later, in the 81st minute, Messi turned provider, setting up Casemiro to convert Inter Miami's second goal.
Named the final's best player
Messi was named the most valuable player of the final for his performance. The victory is Inter Miami's first trophy of the current season and the fourth overall since Messi joined the club. The Argentine's contract with the Miami side runs through the end of 2028.
Farewell match with Argentina approaching
It has previously been reported that Messi will play his farewell match for Argentina's national team on October 6, in a friendly against Benin to be held in Buenos Aires.
