Meta blocks dozens of accounts protesting Kushner-linked Albanian resort

Meta has blocked dozens of social media accounts run by politicians, journalists and activists who have been protesting a luxury tourism development in Albania linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump.

Months of unrest

The project has fueled sustained protests in Albania, known locally as the "Flamingo Revolution," directed against the planned luxury development tied to Kushner's business interests.

In early June, Iran denied any involvement in the Albanian protests, though the episode triggered mutual accusations of disinformation between Tehran and Tirana over the movement.

Clashes with police

Late June saw protesters clash with police in Tirana, a day after a visit by members of the European Parliament. Commenting on the violence, MEP Jutta Paulus said such violence is never acceptable.

In early July, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama denounced the turn toward violence, though he did so with irony, posting about the dramatic scenes in Tirana using clown emojis.

Meta's latest move to block dozens of protest-linked accounts suggests the dispute over the Kushner-tied project continues to widen, now drawing in major technology platforms as well.
