Metta thrash RFS reserves 12:1 in Latvian First League

Riga club Metta recorded the largest victory of the season so far in Latvia's second-tier football league, the First League, crushing RFS-2 by a score of 12:1 on Saturday evening. This marked the third consecutive match in which Metta faced a reserve squad — the team previously beat Tukums 9:0 and drew 2:2 with Riga's reserves.

The rout over RFS-2 was driven largely by 26-year-old Ghanaian forward Prince Amoah, who scored five goals between the 21st and 41st minutes, while 20-year-old fellow Ghanaian Sellu Jallow added two goals during the same stretch. Next Sunday brings a different kind of test for Metta, as the club travels to Skonto Stadium to face Riga's first team in the Latvian Cup quarterfinals.

In the Northern Vidzeme derby, Valmiera beat Smiltene 4:1, with Malian midfielder Mamadou Dembele scoring twice.

Ventspils, Dembele's former club, suffered an unexpected home defeat, losing 0:2 to Super Nova's reserve team, with goals from young players Aleksandrs Malisevs and Kristers Birkse-Kloks. Ventspils will now be without Valters Liepajnieks for the next match after he received two yellow cards and was sent off.

Former Latvian national team player Davis Indrans scored twice to help Juris Docenko's Football School Alberts beat Riga-2 2:0. In Jaunmarupe, Leevon PPK edged Marupe 1:0 — Rene Baumanis missed a penalty for the home side before the first half ended, and Aleksandrs Baturinskis scored the winner in the 69th minute.

After 16 rounds, Valmiera tops the standings with 44 points, narrowly ahead of Metta on goal difference, who also have 44 points.
