Calvin Harris to Perform at Mežaparks Grand Stage; Stage Ready After Pitbull Cancellation
Calvin Harris will give a concert on Thursday at the Mežaparks Grand Stage, with the stage already built. The event follows the cancellation of Pitbull's show over concerns about stage safety.
The stage for the upcoming concert of electronic music artist Calvin Harris has been built at the Mežaparks Grand Stage ahead of his performance on Thursday. Toms Samsons, a representative of the concert agency “FBI”, confirmed this to LETA.
Entrance for visitors will begin at 5 p.m. DJ and radio personality Maija Rozīte is scheduled to perform at 5:30 p.m., Estonian DJ and record producer “Syn Cole” at 7:20 p.m., American house music producer “MK” at 8:30 p.m., and Harris will take the stage at 10 p.m.
Harris has become one of the most influential electronic dance music creators of the 21st century. His music has been streamed more than 56 million times. He has received 14 MTV VMA nominations and two wins, five Grammy nominations, and a Grammy in the best video category for “We Found Love”.
The concert comes after the Pitbull concert planned for July 29 was cancelled. Organizers announced the cancellation on the evening of July 28, citing concerns about the safety of the stage structures. Many questions about specific details and responsibility remained unanswered, and various expert assessments were planned.
Around 40,000 tickets had been sold for the cancelled Pitbull concert. Ticket holders were offered the option to attend the Harris concert or receive a refund for the money spent on tickets.
