International BMX competition returns to Mežaparks with around 400 athletes

International BMX competitions will return to Mežaparks on September 12–13 this year, bringing together around 400 athletes. The Riga Grand Prix 2026 will start at 11:00 on Saturday, September 12, followed by the Riga Cup 2026 at the same time on Sunday, September 13.

The event marks an important stage in the new Olympic qualification cycle ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This gives spectators in Latvia a rare chance to see several of the country's leading BMX riders competing together, including Kristers Apels, Edgars Langmanis, Noa Laaki, Kārlis Pedraudzis, Mārtiņš Emīls Treimanis and Vineta Pētersone.

Participants and prizes

Both experienced elite-class athletes and young BMX riders will take part in the races. Competitors will fight not only for Olympic qualification points but also for cash prizes and special trophies created specifically for the event by Ro Studio. Alongside individual competition, BMX clubs will compete over the two days for the title of strongest club.

A family event

Organisers stress that the competition is not only for sports enthusiasts but for the whole family, offering a dynamic atmosphere and the chance to watch world-class BMX riders in action live. Admission for spectators is free.

Those unable to attend in person will be able to follow the events via live broadcast on TV4, on the Sportacentrs.com website, and on the BMX RIGA YouTube channel.
