Latvian gymnast Dmitrijs Mickevičs finished sixth in the pommel horse final at the European Gymnastics Championships in Zagreb on Friday. In the final, which brought together the eight best gymnasts from the qualification round, he scored 14.266 points and ended the competition in sixth place. That was slightly lower than his qualification score, but it was enough for a top-six finish.

The European champion was Italy's Gabriele Targeta, who earned 15.133 points. Targeta had also been the best in the qualification, meaning his victory came as no surprise. Armenia's Hamlet Manukyan took second place with 15.000 points, while his compatriot Mamikon Khachatryan claimed third with 14.900 points.

Mickevičs secured his place in the final on Wednesday, when he scored 14.466 points in the pommel horse qualification. That performance put him in fourth place and sent him through to the eight-man final. No other Latvian athletes advanced to individual event finals, making Mickevičs the only Latvian representative in the finals.

The European championships in Zagreb are scheduled to conclude on Sunday, when the remaining event finals will be held.
