Microsoft is removing its anthropomorphized AI character Mico from Copilot's voice conversation feature less than a year after its debut, relocating it to the Learn Live tutoring hub.

Microsoft has decided to move its Copilot chatbot character Mico away from the voice conversation section of the app. Mico was introduced in October 2025 as an anthropomorphized face meant to make voice conversations with Copilot feel warmer and more personal.

Now, less than a year later, the company is changing course. Mico will no longer appear in Copilot's voice section. Instead, the character will be relocated to the Learn Live hub, where it will continue to serve as a "tutor" helping users through learning sessions.

The official explanation

According to Mico's support page, the character helped Microsoft learn about warmth, expressiveness, and how people want to talk with AI, and those lessons are continuing to shape Copilot's development. The page further states that Learn is where the character has the most room to grow, since tutoring sessions give it more material to react to and teach through.

The page repeatedly reassures users that voice interaction with Copilot will still be available even without Mico. Users who had customized their own version of the blob in the voice section are warned that those Mico-specific settings will not carry over to its new home in Learn Live.

The change was first reported by The Verge.
