Microsoft has announced a series of updates coming to the Windows 11 Search Box, aimed at making the search experience more streamlined and useful. The changes will first roll out to members of the Windows Insider program starting today.

The search box's home screen has been simplified to reduce visual clutter, making it easier to access recent searches. The results display has also been improved with larger spacing, allowing for clearer presentation of useful metadata.

Users can now toggle on or off the inclusion of web and Microsoft Store results alongside local files. Additionally, web searches will no longer show sponsored content, such as products and promotions, at the top of the results. The improved search is also better at finding both files and apps.

These updates are part of Microsoft's broader shift toward quality-of-life improvements for Windows 11, following a less successful effort to promote Copilot. Recent incremental updates include the ability to resize the Start menu and a system for rolling back faulty drivers.
