Microsoft has expanded its backward compatibility initiative, previously limited to Xbox consoles, to include Windows PCs. The aptly named “Xbox Backward Compatibility on PC” program launches today with four original Xbox titles: BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy.

Each game can be purchased for $10. However, Xbox Game Pass subscribers and those who already own a digital license for these games on console can download them at no extra cost. Unfortunately, inserting an original Xbox disc into a PC drive does not grant access.

Playing these older titles on PC enables several graphical enhancements: Vsync support, anisotropic filtering, improved anti-aliasing, and up to 4x resolution scaling from the original SD signal (to 2560×1920). That said, games are limited to their original frame rates and aspect ratios—mostly 30 fps and 4:3.

Microsoft states these games are playable with an 11-year-old GTX 950 graphics card, but recommends a GTX 1070 Ti with 8GB of VRAM for optimal performance. Early testing by Digital Foundry found the PC experience similar to playing on an Xbox Series X. However, testers noted weak anisotropic filtering, frame timing issues causing “jerky camera motion,” and several visual bugs across the initial wave of titles.
