Microsoft and Nvidia to unveil RTX Spark platform for new Windows laptops in San Francisco
At an event in San Francisco, Microsoft and Nvidia will discuss the RTX Spark platform for local AI on laptops, including the Surface Laptop Ultra. Updates on Windows 11 improvements are also expected.
Microsoft is holding an event in San Francisco today to outline what comes next for Windows and Surface. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Windows and Surface chief Pavan Davuluri are scheduled to take part in a conversation about how local AI will shape the next chapter of the PC.
The RTX Spark platform
Microsoft and Nvidia have been working together on the new RTX Spark platform. It is meant to strengthen local AI models, creative apps and even gaming across a series of new laptops. Nvidia's graphics processor expertise is being built into machines such as the Surface Laptop Ultra, and the event should show what those devices can actually do.
Focus on Windows 11
Microsoft has also spent this year trying to fix Windows 11, with performance and reliability as key priorities while it prepares to support the new platform. The Verge's reporters expect more details on that work to emerge at the event.
A different audience
Unlike the Copilot Plus PC initiative, which was aimed at consumers, RTX Spark is designed largely for AI developers and creators. The event may show how Microsoft and Nvidia plan to position Windows and RTX Spark laptops against Apple's MacBook Pro.
The event begins at 10AM PT, which is 1PM ET. The Verge is covering it in a live blog with minute-by-minute updates.
