Middlesex claim One Day Cup title after Horley's century
Middlesex won the women's One Day Cup final on the strength of a Horley century, while Glamorgan's fielding errors handed their opponents an advantage.
Middlesex secured victory in the women's One Day Cup final, with a century from Horley proving decisive.
Middlesex made a strong start as opener Artemis Downer, who had earlier in September struck an unbeaten 60 in a 10-wicket win over Glamorgan, hit a couple of early boundaries before being caught at point off Anna-Mae Shearn.
Izzy Routledge and Sproul then steadied things with a fluent 60-run partnership, before Routledge was caught at mid-off off a Nicole Reid delivery. Sproul followed shortly after, falling for a solid 43 from 67 balls when caught and bowled by Poppy Walker.
Poor fielding from Glamorgan, including several dropped catches and a missed stumping, worked in Middlesex's favour as Horley and Trussler put together a 131-run stand before Trussler was stumped by Abbey Freeborn off Eve Jackson's bowling.
Horley's own innings ended on 117, helping Middlesex post a demanding target of 279.
Glamorgan's chase falters
Glamorgan got an early breakthrough in the fifth over when captain Lauren Parfitt was bowled by Siya Nanavati for eight. The hard-hitting Daisy Jeanes was soon caught at mid-wicket as well.
Horley, having already completed her century with the bat, then took wickets herself, dismissing Bethan Ellis and Megan Sturge as Glamorgan slumped to 72-4. A 72-run stand between Freeborn and Gammon offered a glimmer of hope, but Freeborn was bowled by Anaya Patel for 43.
Having already won the League Two T20 Blast this season, Glamorgan's hopes of a double were snuffed out when Hannah Davis struck twice in quick succession, including removing Gammon for 58. Fittingly, it was Horley who had the final word, taking the last wicket as Gemma Porter was caught off her bowling.
