Miezis' Team 'Ulaanbaatar' Stopped in 'Challenger' Semifinals

Latvian basketball player Miezis' Mongolian club 'Ulaanbaatar' lost to Croatia's 'Cibona' in the semifinals, while Lācis' 'DeQing' fell to Serbia's 'Ub' in the quarterfinals.

Mongolia's 'Ulaanbaatar', featuring Latvian player Miezis, suffered a defeat in the semifinals of the Kaseresa 'Challenger' tournament on Saturday, losing 11:22 to Croatia's 'Cibona'. Earlier in the tournament, 'Ulaanbaatar' lost 8:21 to Germany's 'Bonn' in Group D but bounced back with a 21:19 victory over Poland's 'Warsaw', finishing second in the group with one win. In the quarterfinals, they defeated Spain's 'Fuengirola' 17:14.

Meanwhile, Chinese club 'DeQing', represented by Latvian Franc Lācis, lost 17:19 to tournament favorite 'Ub' from Serbia in the quarterfinals. In Group C, 'DeQing' beat Austria's 'Vienna' 21:14 but fell 15:21 to Canada's 'Toronto', securing second place in the group.

The Kaseresa 'Challenger' tournament offers three spots to the Debrecen 'Masters' tournament, scheduled for late August. Both teams featuring Latvian players ended their runs without earning a spot.
