Miezis wins Masters ticket with Mongolian team at Ghetto Games festival
Nauris Miezis, representing Mongolian team Energy 3x3, won the Ghetto Basket Ventspils Quest tournament, earning a spot at the FIBA Masters tournament in Debrecen.
The 14th Ghetto Games festival in Ventspils concluded on July 26, after three days of attracting thousands of participants from over 20 countries. The event featured competitions in 3x3 basketball, esports, and other street sports.
One of the main highlights was the Ghetto Basket Ventspils Quest tournament. In the semifinal, two Latvian Olympic champions faced off: Nauris Miezis, playing for the Mongolian team Energy 3x3, and Edgars Krūmiņš, representing Kandava/Turība. In a thrilling match that went into overtime, Miezis' team emerged victorious. In the final, they defeated the Lithuanian team Raudondvaris Hoptrans 22:17, securing a berth at the FIBA Masters tournament in Debrecen.
Significant achievements were also made by Latvian U-23 3x3 national teams. Both the women's and men's teams qualified for the World Cup, which will take place from September 15 to 19 in Wuhan, China.
The festival also hosted the Azeron Baltic Counter-Strike 2 Superfinal, won by the Latvian team Aimhaus, which included Kristaps Brensons from Ventspils. The tournament was broadcast by international esports media and was part of the VRS ranking system.
At the festival's conclusion, Ghetto Games leader Raimonds Elbakjans expressed his commitment to further develop the event on a global scale, emphasizing the team's growth and readiness for the next level. Additionally, the "Dzintars" talk series took place on stage, featuring various public figures sharing their experiences.
