Miezis Leads Ulaanbaatar to Quarterfinals of Challenger Tournament
Latvian basketball player Kārlis Miezis was the top scorer for Ulaanbaatar, helping the team reach the quarterfinals of the 3x3 Challenger tournament.
Ulaanbaatar, seeded second, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 3x3 basketball Challenger series tournament. In Group B, they defeated New Zealand's Christchurch 21-17 but lost to Croatia's Cibona 17-19 in overtime. Kārlis Miezis was the team's leading scorer in both games, netting eight points against Christchurch and nine against Cibona.
Meanwhile, Japan's Shinjuku, seeded fifth, lost to Kaunas 15-21 and to Spain's Fuengirola 13-22 in Group D. Osim scored eight and three points in those games, while Kuksik had three and ten points.
In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Ulaanbaatar will face Kaunas. The top three finishers will earn spots in the Lausanne Masters tournament scheduled for mid-August.
