Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has bowed to street pressure and replaced the head of the armed forces. Former commander Oleksandr Syrsky has been succeeded by Mykhailo Drapaty, who is described as popular among troops and the public. The change comes as Ukraine continues its defense against Russian aggression. Syrsky was appointed in February 2024 after the dismissal of long-time commander Valeriy Zaluzhnyi. Drapaty's appointment reflects the need for a fresh approach in military leadership. Further details about Drapaty's career and plans have not been disclosed.
