Kristen Michal, Estonia's prime minister and chairman of the ruling Reform Party, has said the party hopes to win about 20 seats in the next parliamentary (Riigikogu) election, scheduled for March 2027. He spoke on Saturday in an interview with "Aktuaalne kaamera", a news programme of the Estonian public broadcaster ERR.

Michal said the party wants to build a strong team in parliament, one capable of ensuring Estonia's security and the required level of defence spending. "Our goal is to achieve a good result and win roughly 20 seats in parliament, so that we have a strong team there," the prime minister said.

Economy and pensions

Michal named economic growth as another priority. He believes the government's decisions have helped Estonia develop faster than the European average. In his assessment, the opposition's pessimistic forecasts have not come true.

He also stated that the Reform Party will not allow changes to the current pension system that would affect the indexation of pensions or the second pillar of the pension scheme.

Campaign slogan

Earlier on Saturday, ERR's Russian-language service reported that the ruling party had approved its election slogan. It reads: "A confident course is the future."
