In the first round of Italy's top football division, AC Milan won 2:1 away at Torino, while Atalanta secured a similarly tight 2:1 home victory over Sassuolo.

Torino resist but ultimately fall

The hosts briefly seized the initiative early on, creating a couple of dangerous moments, but Milan soon took full control of the match, dominating possession and producing ten shots on goal. Despite their dominance, the score remained level for a long stretch thanks to goalkeeper Diego Maskardi's saves.

In the second half, experienced midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modrić came on as substitutes, and their presence helped break down the home side's defense. In the 64th minute, 19-year-old Alfagio Sisse, playing his first match for AC Milan's first team, scored following a pass from Rabiot, netting his first goal in senior football. Shortly afterward, Rabiot himself added a second goal. In stoppage time, Torino pulled one back to make it 2:1, but it wasn't enough to level the score.

Atalanta fight for a home win

In the parallel match, Bergamo's Atalanta hosted Sassuolo, a team that had beaten them in both meetings last season. This time, the hosts opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute through Giacomo Raspadori.

However, the visitors continued to pose a threat and equalized in the 55th minute through a goal from Cas Odenthal. The hosts responded ten minutes later when Nikola Krstović beat goalkeeper Arijanet Murić to restore Atalanta's lead. The team held on to that advantage until the final whistle, winning 2:1 and starting the new season with important points.

Atalanta will soon continue their European campaign with the second leg of the Conference League qualification's final round against Tel Aviv's Hapoel, following a 0:0 draw in the first leg.
