Volleyball thriller in Milan: European Championship gold goes to Poland again

The men's volleyball European Championship has concluded in Milan, with Poland confirming its status as champion in the final match. Poland defeated Olympic champions France with an overall set score of 3:1. The set scores were 31:29, 25:19, 20:25 and 25:16, reflecting a tightly contested match, particularly the first set, which was decided by just a two-point margin.
Historic achievement for Finland
The tournament's bronze medal went to Finland's national team, marking the first time in the history of the European Championships that Finland has achieved this result. It represents a significant milestone for Finnish volleyball and one of the tournament's notable surprises.
Latvia finishes in the lower half of the standings
Latvia's national volleyball team, led by head coach Uģis Krastiņš, finished 15th in the championship, which featured teams from 24 countries. This places Latvia in the lower half of the final standings, though not among the last-placed teams.
The next European Volleyball Championship will take place in 2028, giving all participating teams, including Latvia, time to prepare and aim for improved results.
