Military Police welcomes new four-legged colleague Virginia

The Military Police has welcomed a new four-legged recruit – a four-month-old German Shepherd puppy named Virginia. The agency introduced its newest colleague in a video shared on social media.

Starting with play

At this stage, Virginia is still getting acquainted with her surroundings. The Military Police explains that her early training takes the form of games and play, which helps the puppy socialize gradually and become accustomed to the variety of situations she may encounter once she becomes a fully trained service dog.

The goal is to prepare Virginia for the dynamic, demanding daily work of the Military Police, though a long training process still lies ahead.

The handler's role

The Military Police also highlighted the importance of the dog handler, or cynologist, in preparing a service dog. This work is described as difficult, responsible and constant – the dog stays by the handler's side not only during duty hours but also in daily life outside of work.

The Military Police wished Virginia success in her upcoming training as she begins the long path toward full service.
