Deported from US, Milo Yiannopoulos likely to find no easy welcome in UK right wing

Far-right agitator Milo Yiannopoulos, 41, is back in Britain after US authorities deported him for allegedly overstaying his visa. He rose to prominence in America by backing Donald Trump ahead of the 2016 election, though he has since distanced himself from the president, saying he is "firmly off the Trump train."

Yiannopoulos began his career at the Daily Telegraph before launching his own site, the Kernel, and later joining Steve Bannon's Breitbart News in 2014. He left Breitbart amid backlash over comments in a video that appeared to condone sexual relations with boys as young as 13, which he attributed to "sloppy editing" and his own dark sense of humour, denying he endorsed paedophilia.

Since his departure from Britain, GB News has emerged as the country's leading right-wing broadcaster, but a source there said the channel would not touch him, describing his politics as tailored to an American audience with little commercial appeal in the UK.

Reform UK is also expected to keep him at arm's length. Raheem Kassam, a former Breitbart colleague now close to party leader Nigel Farage, accused Yiannopoulos of making false accusations against him, while suggesting he could resurface as an adviser or reality TV contestant.

One potential home is Restore Britain, the party led by Rupert Lowe after his split from Reform, which has already welcomed other figures considered too extreme for Farage's party, including Tommy Robinson. Yiannopoulos has praised Lowe and urged young right-wing activists to join Restore, while criticising Reform's Zia Yusuf online.

The US Department of Homeland Security said Yiannopoulos legally entered the country in May 2019 but subsequently violated immigration law by overstaying. He previously worked on Kanye West's short-lived 2024 presidential campaign and last year said he would never return to Britain unless it adopted mass deportations.
