Minecraft to get new dimension called The Sift in 2027
Mojang Studios announced that Minecraft will receive a new dimension, The Sift, in 2027 — the first new dimension in over 15 years. It will debut in Minecraft Dungeons 2 before reaching the base game.
During the Minecraft Live event, Mojang Studios revealed that a new dimension called The Sift will be added to both the Java and Bedrock editions of Minecraft in 2027. It marks the first new dimension since The End arrived with the game's 1.0 release in late 2011, ending a gap of more than 15 years.
The studio shared only limited details about the new dimension, mentioning that it will include areas such as the Meadows and the Carapace. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma posted a short teaser video on X showing off The Sift and one of the new creatures found there.
According to Xbox, the dimension will introduce new mobs that can act either as companions or as threats to players. Specifics on gameplay changes remain scarce, with only a mention that players will need to learn "new rules."
Dungeons 2 arrives first
Players eager for an earlier look at The Sift will be able to explore it in Minecraft Dungeons 2, the studio's sequel to its dungeon-crawler spinoff, set for release on September 29 — well ahead of the dimension's arrival in the main game.
Mojang Studios also reiterated other upcoming changes, including Minecraft's launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27. The company noted that more than 300,000 people play Minecraft for the first time on an average day, and that the game has sold over 425 million copies in the more than 17 years since its release.
