Bayern Munich coach Kompany discharged from hospital after collapsing at training
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has left hospital after collapsing at a training session last week. No return date has been set, and assistant Aaron Danks is in charge of the team for now.

Bayern Munich, the German football club, has said head coach Vincent Kompany, a Belgian and former Manchester City defender, was discharged from hospital on Wednesday, 28 October. He collapsed last Friday at the club's training ground during a second-team session. No date has been set for his return, so his assistant is leading the team in the meantime.
What happened
Club board member for sport Max Eberl told broadcaster ARD, ahead of the German Cup tie against Magdeburg, which Bayern won 6-1, that the collapse was caused by meningeal irritation. According to him, Kompany will now rest and take medication, and Eberl is certain the coach will be back on the touchline soon. He said that, given the circumstances, Kompany is doing well.
The source notes that Kompany had earlier in the week missed some duties because of a viral infection, including media obligations before the Champions League match against Arsenal of London. He still took his place in the dugout for that game, which finished 2-2.
Return timing
Eberl said Kompany would resume his duties only after receiving medical clearance. Assistant Aaron Danks repeated this after the win over Magdeburg, saying there was no timeline and that the discharge was a positive step in the coach's recovery. Danks said Kompany can now settle back at home with his family, but still needs to rest and recover. He also said he had not spoken to the coach for a couple of days.
Danks was also in charge for the weekend's 3-1 away win at Freiburg. Bayern, who lead the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league, face title rival Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
