British actor Tim Curry died on Tuesday evening at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 80. According to TMZ, police were called to the actor's residence late in the evening, though authorities said there was no indication of foul play. Curry had battled serious health problems for more than ten years.

A career in Hollywood

Curry began working in Hollywood in the late 1960s but achieved worldwide fame after the 1975 film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", in which he played Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Although the film initially received a lukewarm critical response, it later grew into one of the most influential cult films in cinema history.

Many viewers also remember Curry as the mysterious hotel employee in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York", where he starred alongside lead actor Macaulay Culkin. He was likewise well known for his terrifying portrayal of the clown Pennywise in the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King's novel "It".

The actor's filmography also includes "Annie", "Clue", "The Hunt for Red October", "Muppet Treasure Island" and "Scary Movie 2". Over a career spanning five decades, Curry earned deep respect in both film and theatre, receiving three Tony Award nominations as well as an Emmy Award nomination.

Later years

In 2012, Curry suffered a severe stroke that required brain surgery, an event that significantly affected the rest of his life and work. Last year, in his memoir titled "Vagabond", Curry revealed that he was still unable to walk on his own.

Tim Curry leaves behind a number of iconic roles that have become an inseparable part of cinema classics.
