Mobileye founder and CEO Amnon Shashua to step down as company pivots to robotaxis and robotics

Mobileye founder and CEO Amnon Shashua plans to step down from the company's leadership after nearly three decades. According to a regulatory filing, Shashua will remain CEO until a replacement is hired. The transition comes as Mobileye pushes into robotaxis and humanoid robotics.

Mobileye started by developing computer vision chips based on Shashua's academic research at Hebrew University in Israel. It grew into a major supplier of chips powering automotive safety and driver-assistance features. The company achieved the largest IPO in Israel's history, was acquired by Intel for $15.3 billion in 2017, and spun back out as a publicly traded company in 2022, with Intel remaining its largest shareholder.

Under Shashua, Mobileye expanded beyond selling chips to automakers, building its own autonomous driving systems now supplied to Volkswagen and its MOIA subsidiary. In January, the company acquired Shashua's humanoid robotics startup Mentee Robotics for $900 million, which Shashua described as part of "Mobileye 3.0," a new phase focused on robotics and automotive AI. In June, Mobileye announced plans to launch its own robotaxi service in a U.S. city in 2027, moving beyond its supplier role.
