Mogo loses to second Latvian U20 team, finishes tournament in last place
Riga's Mogo fell 0:1 to the Latvian U20 national team's red squad in the fifth-place match of the LHF President's Cup, ending the tournament in last place.
Latvian champions Riga's Mogo failed to salvage their standing at the Latvian Hockey Federation's (LHF) President's Cup, losing 0:1 to the red squad of the Latvian U20 national team candidates in the match for fifth place.
Mogo dominated the shot count, firing 54 shots compared to their opponents' 32, but the young team's goaltender proved decisive. Eighteen-year-old Tomass Rutulis, a product of the Kurbads hockey school who has spent recent years developing his skills in the United States, put in an outstanding performance in net. Starting in autumn 2027, Rutulis will play for Princeton University.
The U20 side's only goal came in the seventh minute, scored by 18-year-old forward Roberts Miglāns, who currently plays for a Cologne club.
This marked Mogo's second loss to a Latvian U20 team within 20 hours, leaving the club in last place, fifth overall, in the tournament.
Tournament format
The LHF President's Cup preliminary round was held in Piņķi. Group One featured the Latvian U20 red squad, Zemgale/LBTU and Finnish club TUTO's second team, while Group Two included the Latvian U20 white squad, Mogo/RSU and the French U20 national team.
On finals day, in addition to the fifth-place match, the schedule also included the third-place game between Zemgale/LBTU and the French U20 team, as well as the final for first place between the Latvian U20 white squad and TUTO.
