Ukraine's dairy export landscape has shifted, with Moldova now standing as the country's single largest foreign buyer of dairy products, overtaking every European Union member state that had previously ranked among its top destinations.

Exports down, imports up

Alongside Moldova's rise as the leading customer, Ukraine's overall dairy exports have been falling, meaning the country is selling less dairy abroad than before. At the same time, the trend runs in the opposite direction for imports, with Ukraine bringing in more dairy products from abroad.

The shift highlights a change in the structure of Ukraine's dairy trade, an area where EU markets had long played a leading role. Moldova's emergence as the top buyer, ahead of all EU countries, points to growing significance of regional trade ties with Ukraine's immediate neighbors, while the simultaneous drop in exports and rise in imports may reflect broader changes in domestic supply and demand within Ukraine's dairy sector.

Detailed figures on specific export and import volumes have not been made public in full, but the overall picture suggests Ukraine's dairy industry is undergoing a period of transition—moving away from its traditional emphasis on EU markets toward closer trade with nearby countries such as Moldova.
