Moldova residents report flying objects and explosion sound
Moldovan police are checking residents' reports of possible drones over two districts, though no debris or blast traces have been confirmed on the ground so far.
Police in Moldova are investigating reports from local residents in two districts about possible unmanned aerial vehicles spotted in the country's airspace, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
According to law enforcement, at around 1:50 a.m. a resident of the village of Berezlogi contacted police in Orhei, reporting a flying object resembling a drone in the sky. Later, around 2:00 a.m., a resident of the village of Dereneu contacted police in Calarasi, saying they saw a bright light in the sky followed by an explosion sound.
No evidence found so far
Police immediately responded and carried out checks in the reported areas. Preliminary investigation and inspection of the terrain, including areas outside populated localities, found no debris, impact marks or fire traces that would confirm an explosion on the ground or the crash of any object. Police continue checking to establish all circumstances and document the incident.
Authorities reminded residents that if they spot flying objects, explosions or suspicious objects that have fallen to the ground, they should not approach them and should immediately call the 112 emergency service.
As previously reported, on September 18 police found drone debris in the village of Colonita near Chisinau. Prior to that, a powerful explosion was heard overnight in a Chisinau suburb, though Moldova's defense ministry said no airspace violation was recorded that night. Separately, Moldova's border police reported detecting several unidentified aircraft violating the country's airspace in the Stefan Voda district on the morning of September 19.
