Two Drawing Exhibitions at the Latvian National Museum of Art

This summer, the main building of the Latvian National Museum of Art is focusing on drawing. In the Great Exhibition Hall, the exhibition “Embodied Thought” is on view until November 8, featuring several hundred works by Latvian artists created over three centuries. Meanwhile, in the left wing of the second floor, a major collection of contemporary international drawing from the Centre Pompidou in France is displayed from July 25 to November 1.

Museum director Iveta Derkusova notes that drawing is a phenomenon difficult to define, as almost no creative process begins without it. It can be the first step toward a painting, sculpture, or installation, as well as an independent art form. She remarks that it is a happy coincidence that both exhibitions are available simultaneously at the museum.
