Country music legend Dolly Parton dies at 80
Country music star Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80, her nephew and security chief Brian Seaver confirmed. The singer had faced health issues in recent months.
Dolly Parton, often called the queen of country music, has died at the age of 80. Her nephew Brian Seaver, who also served as her head of security, confirmed the news today in a video statement posted on Instagram, saying Parton had asked him to make such an announcement years ago.
Seaver said his aunt had "lived in the light" and was now "in the arms of Jesus" alongside her late husband Carl Dean, her parents, and many other loved ones who had been waiting to welcome her.
Six decades of music
Parton had an outstanding musical career spanning six decades. She is perhaps best known for her hits "Jolene" and "9 to 5". Her death comes after several months during which the singer faced health problems and cancelled a number of public appearances, sparking concern among fans about her condition.
A nephew's memories
Seaver recalled travelling with Parton on concert tours as a child in the 1980s. He said the singer "opened doors" not just for him but for the entire family, allowing them to reach potential they never knew they had.
He described his aunt as a farmer just like her father. According to Seaver, Parton herself had asked to be laid to rest in a soft, cotton-covered bed, saying that after a life spent in heavy, crystal-adorned costumes, she had finally earned the right to feel comfortable and rest.
