On Thursday morning at 8:30, the National Alliance will hold a picket outside the Saeima building to express support for Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava and to oppose calls for his resignation.

The party states that since taking office, Dombrava has consistently pursued a stricter immigration policy, strengthened protection of Latvia's eastern border, and worked to reinforce the country's internal security services. The National Alliance's statement also highlights increased security along the Latvia–Belarus border and improved cooperation between the State Border Guard, State Police and other agencies involved in national security.

Who is demanding his resignation

The Kremlin-friendly alliance "Stability!" and the party "Latvia First" have both announced they will demand the minister's resignation. Latvia First leader Ainārs Šlesers said the resignation request will be submitted at the next Saeima sitting. Part of the opposition's criticism is tied to the government's plan to suspend operations at the Pāternieki border crossing point on the border with Belarus; the Interior Ministry says the move is needed to strengthen national security and reduce pressure from illegal migration.

Divided positions in parliament

Andris Šuvajevs, leader of the opposition party "Progressives" faction, has said his faction will support the resignation request, citing risks to national security interests. Meanwhile, Edmunds Jurēvics, leader of the ruling "New Unity" faction, has confirmed his faction will not support the resignation demand.
