National Coffee Day: Big Chains Skip Discounts, but Home Equipment Deals Shine
National Coffee Day falls on September 29, but most major coffee chains are offering new menu items this year instead of discounts, while several coffee equipment brands have rolled out notable price cuts.
September 29 marks National Coffee Day in the US, a holiday created by the National Coffee Association around 2009. It should not be confused with International Coffee Day, which falls the following day.
In past years, the day was known for free or discounted coffee at chains such as Dunkin' and Panera. This year, however, most major coffee chains have opted to launch new products rather than offer discounts — Krispy Kreme introduced coffee-flavored donuts, while Starbucks debuted a new drink called the aerocano.
Deals for home brewers
With fewer discounts from big chains this year, better deals can be found among coffee equipment and subscription brands. Coffee subscription service Atlas Coffee Club is running a multi-part promotion through October 5, including a discounted bag of single-origin coffee with any subscription, savings on pods for Keurig and Nespresso machines, and reduced prices on gift subscriptions.
Appliance makers are also offering discounts. De'Longhi's automatic espresso machine, the Rivelia, is priced at its lowest point since price tracking began. A plastic-free Aeropress coffee press model is also discounted, as is Keurig's K-Café Smart coffee maker, which is available at half its usual price. Coffee maker brand Fellow, meanwhile, is offering a discount on a bundle that includes a drip coffee maker and a coffee grinder.
Observers note that discounts of this scale are rarely seen outside major shopping holidays, making them worth considering for anyone in the market for coffee equipment.
