Summer Thursday mornings at the Latvian National Museum of Art feature yoga with a view
The Latvian National Museum of Art continues its summer tradition of Thursday morning yoga sessions with a view of the country's most significant painting collection.

Nostalgia, like a linen beach towel smelling of childhood, seems to have spread across the entire world. At the same time, time is said to be pulling away things that no longer belong to the present. Against this backdrop, the Latvian National Museum of Art offers a chance to pause and spend a slow morning surrounded by art.
The museum is continuing a successful tradition started in previous years. This summer, on Thursday mornings, before the museum opens to the public, visitors are invited to take part in a leisurely yoga practice. The class is led by instructors from the Jivamukti Yoga Riga studio. Those taking part get a view of what is described as the country's most significant collection of paintings, turning an ordinary exercise into an aesthetic experience.
After the yoga session, participants can use the same ticket to explore the museum's extensive exhibition. According to the organisers, no outstanding physical fitness or broad knowledge of art history is required. A willingness to enjoy art and movement in a single morning ritual is enough.
Such an approach lets visitors see the collection in a different light – in a calmer, more personal atmosphere – while also taking care of their own well-being. The tradition has evidently found its audience, encouraging the museum to keep it alive this summer.
