National Theatre Honours Composer Uldis Stabulnieks with Concert Production "Divine Coincidences"
Latvia's National Theatre has created a concert production titled "Divine Coincidences," dedicated to composer Uldis Stabulnieks, who would have turned 80 last year.
Latvia's National Theatre has staged a concert production called "Divine Coincidences" ("Dievišķās nejaušības"), dedicated to the work of composer Uldis Stabulnieks. The production was created by director and actress Marija Bērziņa together with Aleksandrs Tomass Matjussons, composer and head of the theatre's music department.
The idea for the production is linked to the fact that last year, in 2025, Stabulnieks would have turned 80 – he was born in 1945. The creators wanted to draw wider public attention to lesser-known gems of the composer's output, works that have not received as much recognition as some of his better-known pieces.
According to Bērziņa and Matjussons, Stabulnieks' music is colourful and refined, carrying a deep emotional world. It affirms freedom and a zest for life, producing a vivid and emotionally rich sound. These qualities inspired the creators of the concert production, who brought together the composer's works in a unified stage format.
"Divine Coincidences" was created as a tribute to the composer, recalling his significance in the history of Latvian music. The production can be watched, offering a wider audience the chance to discover Stabulnieks' work, including those previously unfamiliar with it.
