The Latvian National Theatre in Riga has recently staged the premiere of «Principiāla nostāja» («A Principled Stance»). It is the second joint project by director Roberts Daubure, playwright Jānis Joņevs and set designer Kristians Brekte in a planned trilogy about crimes and how they were investigated in Latvia. The play is based on real events and looks at Latvian history through the memories of a woman investigator.

Radio discussion

The production was discussed on «Šņorbēniņi», a programme on Latvian Radio 3 «Klasika». Joņevs and Brekte appeared as guests.

They described how the idea arose to create three different productions about one central character. They also talked about what stories rooted in true events can teach audiences about Latvian history.

The trilogy is still in progress. «Principiāla nostāja» is its second part, and the same creative team is continuing work on the planned cycle.
