Two new theatre premieres open in Riga this week

Two new theatre productions are opening in Riga this week.

"Bride Hunters" at the National Theatre

On September 10, the National Theatre's main hall will host "Bride Hunters," billed as a "marriage saga." The production is based on a novel by Anšlavs Eglītis, one of the most popular works of the interwar period, yet this marks its first-ever staging in a Riga theatre. The show blends a portrayal of 1930s Riga society with a contemporary perspective on the choices young people make. The production is directed by Paula Pļavniece. "A Bit Too Loud" at the Dailes Theatre

On September 11, the Dailes Theatre's main hall will present "A Bit Too Loud." The story follows a touring theatre troupe preparing for a dress rehearsal, though things quickly spiral into chaos — props vanish and reappear like smuggled goods, personal relationships fray, actors forget their lines, and the backstage area turns into a site of emotional outbursts. The production explores the idea that the illusion of the stage must be maintained at any cost, even if it means living it out to the extreme. The director is Mārtiņš Eihe.
