Livonian linguist Valts Ernštreits to head Latvia's National Culture Council
At a meeting of Latvia's National Culture Council held at the Ministry of Culture, Livonian community representative Valts Ernštreits was elected as the council's new chairman, with Dace Jurka named deputy chair.

Latvia's Ministry of Culture hosted a meeting of the National Culture Council on August 19, during which the election of the council's chairperson and deputy chairperson was on the agenda.
Valts Ernštreits, a representative of the Livonian community who also serves on the Council for the Development of Latvia's Historical Lands, was elected as the new chairman of the National Culture Council. Dace Jurka was elected deputy chair; she represents the Latvian Association of Culture Centres on the council, where she chairs the association's board.
The outcome of the meeting and the elections was announced by representatives of the Ministry of Culture.
