Nairobi 'Birdman' shares home with rescued birds
Rodgers Magutha, known as Nairobi's 'Birdman', has gained attention for rescuing injured birds and living with them, defending his unusual bond with wildlife amid health concerns.

A unique rescue mission
Rodgers Oloo Magutha, popularly called Nairobi's 'Birdman', has been drawing attention for his unconventional lifestyle: he rescues injured birds and lets them live freely in his home. Video footage shows him collecting recyclable materials at a Nairobi dumpsite, then caring for the birds and feeding them. Black kites, ibises, pigeons and other birds move freely around him as he explains his mission to protect and release them when they are ready.
Conservation and criticism
Magutha says he has rescued more than 20 birds and wants to raise awareness about conservation through his close bond with wildlife. His videos have gone viral online, but health officials have raised concerns about the risks of disease transmission from such close contact with wild birds. Magutha rejects the criticism, arguing that the birds are well cared for and that his work demonstrates that humans and nature can coexist harmoniously.
