Following a cyclone that brought rain to much of Latvia over the weekend, atmospheric pressure will remain low in the coming days. As a result, the start of September will bring mostly rainy weather, with maximum air temperatures gradually decreasing, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.

Start of the week

On Monday, skies will be cloudy with occasional clearing. Overnight into Monday, short spells of rain are expected in many areas, with thunderstorms possible in some places, while daytime rain will be lighter. Winds will blow light to moderate from the south and southwest, with coastal gusts reaching 15 metres per second. Monday's maximum temperature will reach +19 to +23 degrees, with eastern areas warming up to +25 degrees.

Thunderstorms on the first day of school

On Tuesday and Wednesday, sunshine will be brief and rain will continue in many regions. On September 1, heavy downpours and thunderstorms are forecast for some areas in the afternoon, with thunder possibly still audible overnight into Wednesday. Wind will strengthen on Wednesday, blowing from the west and southwest, becoming gusty along the coast during the day. Nighttime lows will drop to +12 to +16 degrees, while daytime highs will reach +17 to +22 degrees.

Cooler weekend ahead

Towards the end of the working week, precipitation zones will continue crossing Latvia, with daytime temperatures averaging around +20 degrees. The following weekend will bring a further drop of a few degrees, with rain expected across the entire country and winds becoming stronger and gustier.
