More Clouds and Precipitation Expected in Latvia in the Coming Week

The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the national body responsible for weather forecasting, says cloud cover and the likelihood of precipitation in Latvia will gradually increase over the coming week. The forecast was reported by the LETA news agency.

At the start of the week, weather will still be shaped by an anticyclone, so conditions should be relatively calm, with light winds and frequent fog. In the second half of the week the anticyclone's influence will fade, and cyclones will play a growing role, bringing more clouds, precipitation and stronger wind.

Monday and Tuesday

Monday will be cloudy with some clearing, and rain and drizzle are expected in places. Fog will thicken in some areas overnight and may linger into the morning in a few spots. Night temperatures will fall to +1 to +6 degrees, rising to +5 to +10 by day.

On Tuesday a precipitation zone will cross Latvia from the northwest. Rain is expected overnight in the west and in Vidzeme, and during the day in Latgale as well. From the second half of the night, a light to moderate northerly wind will arrive along the coast. Night minimums will be +3 to +8 degrees, though in places in the east and centre the temperature will approach zero. Daytime highs will reach +6 to +11 degrees, a couple of degrees cooler in the east.

Wednesday and the end of the week

On Wednesday, light rain is expected in places in central and eastern areas. The wind will be light to moderate, northwesterly and northerly, gradually turning westerly in the afternoon. In some eastern areas the temperature will drop a couple of degrees below zero overnight. Daytime highs will be +5 to +10 degrees, and only +3 to +5 in the east.

Towards the end of the week the wind will strengthen and may be gusty on the coast at times. Light rain is expected in places, and temperatures will stay similar to those of previous days.
