Next week's name days: Sergejs, Svetlana and Dmitrijs most common
Latvia's Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) reports that among next week's name-day celebrants, Sergejs, Svetlana and Dmitrijs are the most widely held names in the country.
The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) has released statistics from its Population Register showing which names on next week's calendar are most common among Latvian residents.
According to the data, 18,238 people in Latvia carry the name Sergejs, making it the most common name among those celebrating a name day next week. Svetlana follows with 16,116 bearers, while Dmitrijs ranks third with 10,668.
Other relatively common names celebrated between September 28 and October 4 include Mihails (6,735), Elza (3,593), Lāsma (2,165), Miks (1,690), Miķelis (1,356), Zanda (1,269) and Mikus (1,256).
Rarest names
At the other end of the scale, the rarest names on next week's calendar are Elna, held by just three people in Latvia, followed by Ilizana (5), Skaidris (8), Menarda (9), Jumis (25), Zandis (27) and Elma (78).
PMLP data also shows that next week 877 people named Lana, 466 named Francis, 176 named Ilma and 171 named Modra will celebrate their name days.
The statistics further break down how many bearers of each name were born this year, along with distribution figures for Riga and the surrounding Pierīga region.
